Well the days of super early starts, taking the bike on my interstate trips and cycling for hours on our verandah really paid off. The ride was more pleasure than challenge, I am the fittest I have been for years, I met some wonderful people and our combined effiortts helped Mercer SuperCycle 2019 raise over $200k.

The money raised goes to supporting regional cancer sufferers by building family-style accommodation for country cancer patients and their families. The main beneficiary is The Hospital Research Foundation.

The Foundation has created Under Our Roof program to meet a crucial accommodation need for country cancer patients who are required to travel for treatment at Adelaide’s busiest cancer treatment centres including The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, The Royal Adelaide Hospital, St Andrew’s Hospital and Tennyson Centre.

Since the first two Under Our Roof homes opened, demand has been significant and there is a need to build more family-style accommodation. In 2018 the home supported families 92% of the year, but 58 families were sadly turned away as the homes were booked out!

Check out the Under Our Roof Impact Report.

The 2019 ride covered over 1,000kms of stunning South Australian countryside over 7 days. While much of the state is in drought travelling at bike speed you get to enjoy the views. it was a truly wonderful and memorable experience, especially being from NSW.

A big THANK YOU to all my supporters, with your outstanding generosity we contributed $6,275, to the total raised. As the Runner-Up for highest individual rider fundraising efforts I will receive a bottle of wine from the sponsors.

Your support filled me with confidence and pride – thank you.

Bruce

PS Next year I’m thinking of doing a ride in Vic/ ACT, if you want to join me drop me a line and we can create a training schedule together.
